What is Jihad?

 Meaning of Jihad:

The literal meaning of Jihad is effort and in religious terms it refers to the effort to protect, promote and defend the religion of the Muslim Ummah. Accepting Allah as the Ruler of the world requires that every Muslim should follow Allah rules in the affairs of his life. Also, don't let anyone else rule against Allah . If someone wants to take the power of his hands and enforce his law, then he should play with his life and fight against it. The worship of Islam is a means of creating this spirit of devotion in man. Without this spirit, neither the  survival nor the development of Islam is not possible.

Types of Jihad :

There are several types of Jihad, some of which are:

(1) Jihad against self-desire:

The first force that prevents man from obeying God is man's own desires, which are always present in his heart. Man should always be alert to suppress them. Therefore, Jihad against the desires of the self has been named "Jihad Akbar" by the Holy Prophet.  And this is the stage of Jihad without achieving success in it, a person cannot achieve success in any other field of Jihad.

(2) Jihad against Satan:

After controlling one's self, it is necessary to deal with those devils who force the servants of Allah to submit to their obedience and servitude by entertaining them with various tricks and excuses. The Holy Qur'an gives the name of "Taghut" to every such force.

Allah Ta'ala says in the Holy Qur'an:

Surah Al-Nisaa verse 76:

Translation:

Those who believe fight in the way of Allah and those who disbelieve fight in the way of Satan.

These tyrannical forces are also found in the form of wrong customs and practices within the Islamic society and also in the form of domination by non-Islamic countries outside the Islamic society. Therefore, the methods of dealing with these tyrannical powers are also different. Sometimes they are dealt with by language and pen and sometimes by force. In this regard,Allah Ta'ala says in the Holy Qur'an:

Surah Al-Nahl verse 125:

 Translation:

And argue with them in a manner that is very good.

If the true spirit of Jihad is present in the heart, then the religious insight will show the appropriate ways on every occasion. In this regard, this saying of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) provides the best guidance:

Whoever among you sees evil, he should stop it with his hands. If you do not have the power to stop it with your hand, then stop it with your tongue, and if you do not have the power to stop it with your tongue, then consider it bad with your heart, and this is the weakest level of faith.

(3)Jihad Balasif:

There is a turning point in the struggle between right and wrong when the oppressive forces go beyond the hidden war and descend into open war to block the path of truth.

And Muslims have to fight with them for their protection and survival of religion.

 It has two types.

 (1) Defensive Jihad:

If a non-Muslim force attacks a Muslim country, Jihad becomes obligatory on the Muslims of that country for the protection of their religion and faith, life and property,  honor and reputation. Any attempt to protect Muslim countries and Islamic society from the domination of non-Muslims will be Jihad. A type of defensive jihad is also that if the Muslim subjects of a non-Muslim state are being persecuted because of their being Muslims, then the Muslim world should make every possible effort to save them from persecution. This effort is called defensive jihad.

(2) Peaceful Jihad:

A person who recites Kalima Tayyaba and confesses the sovereignty of Allah and obedience to the Holy Prophet (peace be upon him). It is necessary for him to strive to implement the sovereignty of Allah Almighty and the Shari'ah of the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) in the whole world. Allah Ta'ala has described the establishment of the true religion as one of the main objectives of the Prophet's mission.

Allah Ta'ala says in the Holy Qur'an:

Surah At-Towba verse 3:3

Translation:

It is He Who sent His Messenger with guidance and the religion of truth to make it (religion) dominant over all the religions (of the world). Although the disbelievers are unhappy.
